Mae has finally let her Christmas tree fall down and is hitting the slopes. Nothing is going downhill with her.

OK, it's a New Year. Shortly we are off on our first 2012 buying trip.
However, we already have some great new pieces and artists in.
New lamps from Pam Forman are lighting the way throughout
the store. Antique and vintage bases are adorned with some of her most creative and innovative shades yet.

Melinda has added a new series of her European tours. "Laundry Day" is made of decoupaged post stamps and an array of aged colors adorning a french apartment house.
Italian street and vineyard scenes
delight the eyes. You can almost smell the lavender in
her paintings of their fields or hear her Sunflowers turn to their light.

The "ladies room" has some new locally hand-made berets embellished with flowers The smells, sights and senses abound...

The AT&T Pebble Beach national Pro-Am is right around the corner. Feb. 7-13 will bring celebrities and Pros as well to Pebble Beach and Carmel. Shuttles will be available right up the street from our Carmel-by-the-Sea store. when the golf is done the fun begins and Carmel comes alive. Check out Hudson's commemorative AT&T plate.This is a hand made, Dai Thomas original. He's optimistic he can get that ball!

It's a New Year, We are in our new location and lovin it.
We are showing an entirely different line from one of our artists. Doug is a glass artist extraordinaire. Hanging in the front window are three Jellyfish lamps. glass tentacles sway gracefully from the multi- colored "bodies". He has also created glass orchids and hearts that are truly amazing.

Hudson, the ever so popular mascot at Avant Garden and Home is about to be on Animal Planet. One of those right place/right time things. The Crew was filming an episode of "Big Dogs Little Dogs" for Dogs101.They were shooting a segment with Mayor Sue McCloud and Robbie, Her Dandie Dinmont Terrier. Hudson mustered all his star power and went out to pose irresistibly for the cameras. We are not sure when it will be airing. Keep watching the blog. Hudson promises this won't go to his head. The picture below is his "uninflated ego.

Our new store in down town Carmel-by-the-Sea is creating quite the buzz. all of our pieces, especially, Our lamps are getting so much attention. We have some wonderful new designs and have gotten back a few we have sold out. Each lamp is a work of art in it's own right. The latest edition of Artworks magazine is featuring a beautiful ad on "the Alexandria lamp".
I have put in a few pictures of Avant Garden and Home's lamps. They will definitely brighten any room.

We have moved on past the US Open and brought in some new items. A recent high end craft show in 112 degree Las Vegas yielded some interesting new character and characters. Blanche is the Buxom southern Belle gracing the rear of the store. We brought her back with many chuckles along the way. Remember, What happens in Las Vegas...
Painted cedar fence panels and some surprising new ceramics fill in the Mix. Hudson is beaming. besides being his birthday July 3rd, He also got our new amazing Grandfather clock named after him. The clock is so typical of their designs. (even though it's anything but typical) Sweeping lines and industrial looking coils ad an interesting twist to a Victorian feel. May is "gracing" the front window in her beach mode. There's always something odd about a mannequin of a 80 year old woman fondling an itsy-bitsy-yellow-polka-dot bikini. OK, you can stop singing now. making a long story short, Come on in. See You soon, Jeffrey

Well,
We finally did it. We have been hoping for one particular location in Carmel-by-the-Sea for years,
We have missed it twice, but perseverance pays! Avant Garden and Home has a new Home.
We are now at San Carlos and Seventh. Weeks of Painting, redesign and rearranging really paid off. Soaring two story ceilings arched windows and great hardwood floors really enhance the whole feel of the new store. As always, the only way to really know Us is to experience Us.

Somewhat Sad, but from a store standpoint, quite glad. Our hand painted ceramic barbecue from the beautiful seaside village of Positano, Italy has found a new home, The seaside hamlet of Carmel, California. Every barbecue should have this good a life.

Back from Italy. We do love that country.
We brought back some interesting Ceramics and Leathers.
We got in a Ceramic barbecue. hand painted and fired with our designs. Definitely a must see.
I thought of a variation: the grille and ash draw can be removed and used as a wine cooler. the things you can do and the fun with just a little imagination.

The Gardens are starting to bloom. Poppies are covering the hillsides. Spring has sprung!!

Outdoor Furniture is staring to peek out. We just got in a new line of WEATHERPROOF rattan furniture. It has the look of wicker chairs that would have been on the veranda of Teddy Roosevelt's Sagamore Hill. the biggest difference is this could have stood up to his "Rough Riders". It's built on a powder coated aluminum frame with a wicker look that is unbelievable. We also have some new wrought iron pieces. Tables, benches and chairs, all with a timeless look. The photo to the far right shows a line of fully weatherproof art. This particular piece is in my garden filling a previously bland wall. I have made a fountain out of this with cascading water and a peaceful sound. A little imagination and a trip to AvantGardenandHome can make quite the change in your surroundings.

Each year Meals on Wheels hosts a Charity fundraiser. The Classique d'Elegance.

twenty two Chefs and designers pair to create both a visual and culinary fantasy.

These pictures are of the Fall and Nature inspired table. Our Cohorts have been Chefs extraodinaire,

Bird of Paradise Catering. (paradisecater.com)

Last Year's theme was Beatle inspired. A Life sized painting of the Beatles in Sgt. Peppers attire was the backdrop.There were items throughout the table hinting to Songs by the Fab Four. Little pictures of Lucille Ball suspended from a tree with glass ornaments

(Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds) and a snow globe of the White House. If You held it up there was a caricature of George W. Bush in a jester's hat (Fool on the Hill).

We are off for another shopping trip throughout Europe.

This trip will encompass the Umbria and Tuscany regions of Italy.

Goals and plans, as usual are spontaneous. Florence, as always will

offers Us amazing finds in leather goods and art pieces. Be prepared for a great selection of purse, wallets, packs, and whatever else catches our fancy.
